Chapter 2 Discussion

Chapter 2 of Wesley Fryer's Playing with Media is entitled "Digital Text" and discusses how to use digital-learning platforms such as wikis and blogs in the classroom. In conjunction with detailed instruction on how to use various web-based blogs, a major theme of Chapter 2 is classroom collaboration, a theme that is echoed in a YouTube video entitled "Montana Voices: Digital Vision for Schools 2011 Challenge." Several educators in this video clip talk about technology in the classroom as a collaborative effort: Jason Neiffer points out that classroom teachers need to be "digital leaders" who are able to both instruct students in the use of technology and model the use of technology; Julie Hainline and Heather Davis Schneider discuss the concept of top-down/bottom-up learning based on collaboration between teachers and students; and David Rott asserts that the use of technology for instruction and communication must be based on a "collaborative community" of teachers, students, and parents ("Montana Voices").
